DCM'S

This is a list of all the DCM's I had to investigate.

Email – Electronic Mail

Known as “Electronic Mail” it is the method of exchanging information to one or more recipients using the Internet. There are numerous service providers such as Google, Yahoo and Hotmail, which allow people to sign up for free and create their very own email address to be contacted on e.g. mchael.dominy@yahoo.com.

IM – Instant Messaging

“MSN Messenger” made “Instant Messaging” popular; it allowed people to instantly communicate with someone in the world by typing a message and sending it. As the software advanced features were added like video calling which allowed the user to speak in person using a webcam.

SMS - Short Message Service

Text messaging is a feature on mobile devices; it is when someone types a short message using the keys on the phone and sends it via their mobile network.  It is the most widely used data application in the world.

Bulletin Board

It is a feature on websites, which allows the administrator to publish public messages (messages for everyone to see) they are popular on band websites when posting tour dates etc. It is the easiest way to put across the information because anyone can see it.

Discussion Forums

These are websites, which provide conversations between different people about a certain subject, it can range from help topics; how to sync an iPod to what is the best level on grand theft auto. They are however different to chat rooms because some questions are archived for future reference and posts may not be instantly uploaded. It may have to be moderated first to ensure its not spam or abusive in any way.

Weblogs (Blogs)

This is a personal memoir posted on to the Internet that can be read by anyone. It usually consists of interesting events that have occurred in the bloggers day and allows readers to post comments and thoughts on that certain blog. In some circumstances instead of it pertaining to one individual it can be used by a group, this allows multiple opinions and a much better discussion point.

Newsgroups

Newsgroups are online discussion groups on any subject possible; they are there to share opinions on subjects
